Educators: Learn all about mentor’s programme
A brand-new teachers and tutors pamphlet gives schools and colleges a lesson in reducing violence in a trauma-informed fashion.
Funded by ourselves and delivered by the Merseyside Youth Association (MYA), Mentors in Violence Prevention is a peer education programme, which has already been delivered in 40 of the region’s secondary schools, creating 5000 leaders who spearhead examinations into the roots of abuse.
These student mentors guide their peers in discussions and activities exploring violence through a gendered lens, dismissing so-called victim blaming and empowering young people to become active bystanders with the confidence to challenge abusive behaviour.
The mentors also have the opportunity to develop communications and leadership skills.
Education establishments involved are allocated a bespoke MYA youth mentor and are given plenty of wraparound support to compliment the programme.
